Congratulations on your diffuser purchase! You’re well on your way to a healthier lifestyle. Now that you have brought your diffuser home and have used it a few times you may notice some discoloration, scale, or sliminess. Maybe you’ve unboxed it and get ready to use it and see all the buttons and are a little bit intimidated. If you’re like me, you have either thrown out or lost the instructions that came with the diffuser and you are probably having an “Oh crap” moment, which has led you here. Check out these tips on how to clean your diffuser:
Get Familiar with Your Diffuser
Most diffusers have a line indicating the maximum fill line. Do not fill past that line or you risk ruining the diffuser or having it not work as well as it should.
Some diffusers will have an indicator showing which side you should empty from. Make sure you follow this guideline or you risk getting water inside the mechanism and ruining the diffuser. Electrical components do not mix well with water!
Many diffusers come equipped with different settings like time and lighting. Time settings will allow the diffuser to will run from 15 minutes up to the time it takes to run the diffuser dry. Light settings can allow you to choose one color, several colors, or no color. Kids love this feature!
How to Clean and Care for Your Diffuser
Regular care and cleaning of your diffuser is important to assure it is working properly, and will be around for a long time. Cleaning is easy. Simply put a bit of water in the diffuser and add a splash of distilled white vinegar and turn it on. Let it run for a few minutes to allow the vinegar to work its way through the machine. Dump out the excess water and vinegar and wipe everything down with a clean cloth. I also like to use a cotton swab to get in the angles and small spaces.
